CECS 5110 Week 1

I am currently working on my masters at the University of North Texas.  This semester I am taking a class all about the use of media for learning and instruction.  My first assignment was to create a blog.  Check.  I have weekly blog posts that I  have to write in response to the professor's questions.  So here's week 1!

  1. What do you think you already know about the use of media for learning and teaching?
  2. Discuss some examples of instances in which you have used media to teach or learn personally and how effective you found it to be.
It's no secret that I love technology and using technology for educational purposes seems like a no brainer for me!  Surprisingly, I don't know a ton about using media for learning and teaching.  I know that I believe it is a very effective way to communicate/teach/learn concepts, but I don't know that I have ever really CREATED anything myself!

YouTube is a great example!  Almost anything you want to know how to do/make has a video tutorial on YouTube.  I have used media to learn to do all kinds of things!  I LOVE to bake and decorate sugar cookies.  When I was first learning how to decorate cookies, I read blogs and watched video tutorials.  When I wanted to learn how to applique/monogram shirts for my children, once again I searched for forms of media to teach me the ropes.  In both instances, I found media to be an extremely helpful tool!  I could learn from the comfort of my own home, revisit it at anytime, speed up/slow down as needed, and stop/pick up again when ready.  I'm very anxious to see what's in store this semester!
