What the Tech?! - Week 22

I've got a product for you this week that I got for Christmas and let sit in the box until Spring Break!  Once I took the time to look at what it was, I was so mad at myself for letting it sit so long!  It's Ring Video Doorbell.  I know several of you have told me that you have this product and I'm almost mad at you for keeping it from me! ;)

So those of you who don't have it and haven't heard about it... You replace your current doorbell with this one (literally in the same exact spot, same wires, nothing special!) and when someone rings your doorbell you are notified on your phone!  Don't worry, your chime inside your home will still ring as well.  I also like that it notifies me if there is MOTION by my front door.  When you get a notification on your phone (that there was a ring or motion) you open the app and you can SEE and TALK to the person at your door!  No matter where YOU are!  If you want to be able to go back and see PAST ringers and motioners, then there is a $3/month cloud service fee for the company to store your videos. It is NOT required if you just want to get notifications and see/talk (in real time).

My UPS man never rings the doorbell when he drops packages off (You know I love me some Amazon Prime!), so I really like that the motion alert tells me someone is on my porch!  It's also great if you have kids coming/going to school when you have already left for work!

You can buy these nifty little things all over the place and online!

What the Tech?! - Week 21

Hey guys!  The cool site I have to show you this week is one that comes in handy when you want to help out a friend who has just had a baby, surgery, or maybe a death in the family.  It's called Meal Train and what I like about it is that it is super user friendly, organizes everything, sends reminders, and more!

You might be asking how this is different from Sign Up Genius.  It has a few added features to make it specific to providing meals.  For example, the organizer can enter the family's info (how many adults/kids), their favorite meals, least favorite meals, dietary restrictions/allergies, and preferred meal time. You are given a link to share so that people can see the calendar of dates and sign up for what they would like to bring. All of this is free!  However, they do offer other meal train options (like if you wanted to incorporate the option for friends to sign up for babysitting) for a small fee.  I have never used any of the paid options.

Here's a video (1 min 14 sec) that gives you a quick overview- https://youtu.be/DKRzt0t9uo8

What the Tech?! - Week 20

It probably won't surprise you that I love to be crafty! When I was growing up, I can't even begin to tell you how many times I heard the phrase, "Ohh! We could make that!" come out of my mom and grandmother's mouths. It's how I was raised. I hate to see people pay more than what they should for items they could make themselves, so today I'm sharing an app with you called Darby. It's kind of like Pinterest but ALL short videos that show you how to make things from beginning to end. You have probably seen some of them on Facebook. You can also save your favorites to view later. Check it out and let me know what you make!
